This was originally a 30 day challenge, but I wanted to do it all at once. This is a character development challenge for Kass. It’s really long, so it’s under the cut.
1.) Describe your character’s relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no?
Her mother was killed by her father before Kass could even start a relationship with her. Her father and her do not get along; as though they lead two armies and have fought over eight wars together. Currently her father is in possession of her brother.
2.) What are your characters most prominent physical features?
Probably her eyes. They represent her element well. They’re a nice chocolaty brown, yet they hold all her pain and secrets. They always seem to have flames dancing in them as well.
3.) Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don’t have any, is there a reason?
There is a thin line that runs across a few inches of Kass’ torso. It’s from when in the third war she was stabbed. The third war was when she had to act as though she had died, tricking the other side and her own side.
4.) How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive?
Kass doesn’t have time to think about herself or her appearance. She also doesn’t care because most of the time she’s covered in cuts and bruises.
5.) What’s your character’s ranking on the Kinsey Scale?
Maybe a 1 at the most. Kass doesn’t feel love or have enough time to go around kissing people or anything like that. She’s maybe had one kiss in her whole life.
6.) Describe your character’s happiest memory.
Wow, this is actually a really hard question to answer. I don’t really recall Kass ever having a ‘happy’ moment in her life. Kass isn’t a happy person. I can honestly say I can’t answer this.
7.) Is there one event or happening your character would like to erase from their past? Why?
One thing? Kass would erase everything if she could. Why? Because then she wouldn’t have to keep going through hell.
8.) Day of Favorites! What’s your character’s favorite ice cream flavor? Color? Song? Flower?
Kass doesn’t really have a favourite anything. Unless it’s her favourite way to torture someone.
9.) Who does your character trust?
Will. Maybe it’s because she was born to trust him or maybe just because he’s been there all along. She can go to him for anything and he always has some kind of answer. When he leaves, she’s going to take his place.
10.) Can you define a turning point in your character’s life? Multiples are acceptable.
When Kevin was taken from her. She realized how much she needed him to fight. He’s her reason to fight. Also when Ace told her that he loved her —- It was a shock to know someone was capable to love her.
11.) Is there an animal you equate with your character?
Maybe a wolf. She would do anything to protect her friends. And she’s once of the most vicious people you’ll ever come across.
12.) How is your character with technology? Super savvy, or way behind the times? Letters or email?
Honestly? She doesn’t spend much time on a computer or writing letters. Her father can track her too easily if she does.
13.) What does your character’s bed look like when he/she wakes up? Are the covers off on one side of the bed, are they all curled around a pillow, sprawled everywhere? In what position might they sleep?
The sheets are everywhere and the pillows are damp from sweat and tears. The bed is in absolutely horrid shape. It’s from all the nightmares she has through the night. Of course, she gets up early and makes her bed before anyone can tell it ever looked like that.
14.) How does your character react to temperature changes such as extreme heat and cold?
She’s always extremely hot. It’s just something that comes with being the element fire. If she gets too cold, then the fire in her veins starts freezing up.
15.) Is your character an early morning bird or a night owl?
A bit of both really. She gets up early to make her bed and get herself ready for the day and she has trouble falling asleep at night and the nightmares sometime keeps her awake. So, she’s learned to like both morning and night.
16.) Are there any blood relatives that your character is particularly close with, besides the immediate ones? Cousins, Uncles, Grandfathers, Aunts, et cetera. Are there any others that your character practically considers a blood relative?
Will is practically her father. She’s told him before too; he acts like her father and she’s thankful for that.
17.) What’s your character’s desk/workspace look like? Are they neat or messy?
Messy; papers and battle plans scattered all over the surface. The drawers are messy too; random things thrown in there to give it the illusion that she’s somewhat neat. If you look behind her workspace, you can spot mini pictures of her friends. Of course, she’ll say how that was all Katherine’s idea, but it was really just hers.
18.) Is your character a good cook? What’s their favorite recipe, whether they’re good or not? (Microwave mac-and-cheese applies.)
Kass has people that cook for her, so she has no idea if she can cook good or not. She’d love to learn how to make a turkey dinner, though.
19.) What’s your character’s preferred means of travel?
Well, can teleport places using her element. So, she prefers to do that.
20.) Does your character have any irrational fears?
Fears? Well, Kass would never admit it, but she’s scared of failing everyone.
21.) What would your character’s cutie mark be?
Fire. That’s all I have to say.
22.) If your character could time travel, where would they go?
She wouldn’t go anywhere. She’d risk jeopardizing everything if she time traveled anywhere.
23.) Is your character superstitious?
Not at all. She doesn’t believe in fate or anything like that, although people have mentioned to her ‘her fate’ many times. She believes that you can decided your future and that’s it.
24.) What might your character’s ideal romantic partner be?
Kass doesn’t have an ideal romantic partner. Kass doesn’t want love or a boyfriend. Maybe it’s because the idea of love scares her.
25.) Describe your character’s hands. Are they small, long, calloused, smooth, stubby?
They’re small; tiny really. Although, they always show the slightest hint of red and they hold many scars. They’re also very smooth, despite the scars.
26.) Second day of favorites! Favorite comfort food, favorite vice, favorite outfit, favorite hot drink, favorite time of year, and favorite holiday.
Well, she only really has a favourite outfit; her training outfit. She goes barefoot, her hair high in a pony tail and she wears yoga pants and a black undershirt. The only thing she dislikes about it is that sometimes they make her wear fingerless gloves, which makes her unable to create fire with her hands.
27.) Pick two songs that describe your character at two different points of their life, and explain why you chose them.
My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark by Fall Out Boy for her war days; it just describes her time in the war. Every lyric is like describing the war she has to fight in. Present day would be Demons by Imagine Dragons. She’s been through so much and it shows in her eyes and yet she still feels like she needs to protect everyone.
28.) If your character’s life was a genre, what would it be?
Adventure, Action and Angst. Maybe a little bit of comedy as well. And fantasy, if you can call her life a fantasy.
29.) How does your character smell? Do they wear perfume or cologne?
They smell of ashes and smoke. Although, most might find that an unpleasant scent, there’s just something with her that makes it smell… right.
30.) And finally: Write a letter to your character, from yourself.
You need to open up a little bit more. Maybe learn some manners. Also, smile once in a while. Accept the fact that people love you. Maybe then you wouldn’t have such a hard time with yourself.
I’m not even going to sign this. This wasn’t even really a letter.
